Multi payments per invoice or Multi Invoice per Payment

Hi,
1. It is possible to record multiple partial payments for an invoice
2. Make a payment for multiple invoices?

Or a recommended work around to record this basic transaction.

How can you add an additional payment to a partially paid invoice? I see Add Payment when the invoice has NO payment. After a partial payment is applied, I see the status as PAID. I don't see how you can add the additional payments.
