Hi,
Is there a way to add a description to items in the invoices ? For example I have a repetitive item "hosting". Would be great to be able to add a custom description on the invoices.

Hello Jonathan. Try the Custom Fields app. It should work fine for what you are expecting

currently this is not possible. The last week I implemented this in a fork of Akaunting and created a Pull Request on GitHub. Unfortunately it is not merged yet.

This is really needed. Otherwise those in the service business will end up with multiple duplicate categories with different descriptions.
To avoid duplicate categories being created, one should be able to edit and override the description of the category directly on the invoice.
I agree, this is a fundamental requirement. You need to be able to have a description for an item category that can be edited on the invoice creation screen directly. An example is where the item may be "Labour" but the deails of that labour will be diffrent each time you use the item.
I'm really liking the core of Akaunting but there are a couple of major issues for me like this that will stop me supporting it - at least in the short term. Not being able to edit invoice layouts is another major gap. There is an excellent, if basic, solution for customising print invoices but that doesn't address the underlying problems
