Unable to update core from 2.2.20 to 2.2.35

First, when I tried to update by pressing the "Update" button inside the software, it would download the update but then hang at 40%.

Support suggested trying it from a console with:
artisan update core 1 2.1.35

But that gets:
Downloading update...
Not able to download core

I put it in a CRON job every 15 minutes to see if it was a busy server problem, its been trying to update for 2 days, save error every time!

What can I try next?

Argh! I typoed the version numbers in the title and do not see a way to edit it!

I am running 2.1.20, trying to update to 2.1.35!

Tried the update:all command with -vvv debug, got this:

Starting update...
Updating core...
The command /usr/local/bin/php artisan update core 1 failed.

Exit Code: 1(General error)

Working directory: /home/visrico/public_html/erm

Output:
================
Not able to get the latest version of core!

Error Output:
================

Not able to update core!

Same error, just more verbage.

Did that work? I thought about it, but I set up a new instance of 2.1.35 and started porting my data over. I discovered they added fields, such as splitting "address" out into "city", "state", etc. I dealt with that for the simple 1-table DBs. But things like "Invoices" are composed of at least 2 Dbs.

It was too much trouble to figure out their referential checks. I did a fresh install of 3.0.x and started to manually enter all my settings and details. I'll just leave the old system up to contain all old data. And start using the new install.
