Migrating to Akaunting from Freshbooks

FreshBooks is okay. However, having to pay for basic bookkeeping features that Akaunting offers for UNLIMITED is a bummer.

Migrating from Freshbooks

The following steps provide a guide on successfully moving your business data from Freshbooks to Akaunting.

After Installation, go to settings on Side Panel and select Freshbooks.

From the Freshbooks Migration App dashboard, you should log in to your Freshbooks account by clicking on “Auth” and entering the required Freshbooks details.

Migrating as an Akaunting on-premise user

If you’ve installed Akaunting on-premise on your server, apply the following steps:

  1. Go to https://my.freshbooks.com/#/developer
  2. Sign in to Freshbooks and then to Developer Portal (Settings menu in the top left corner).
  3. Click Create an App
  4. Enter app details and Application type. 
  5. Select Public or Test App and set Redirect URL: The Redirect URL will be something like: https://your-akaunting-path.com/freshbooks/auth (needs to end with /freshbooks/auth).
  6. Add Scopes: ‘admin:all:legacy’, ‘user:bill_payments:read’, ‘user:bill_vendors:read’, ‘user:invoices:read’, ‘user:billable_items:read’, ‘user:clients:write’, ‘user:taxes:read’, ‘user:credit_notes:read’, ‘user:expenses:read’, ‘user:clients:read’.
  7. Click Create your application.
  8. Copy Client ID and Client Secret to Akaunting > Settings > FreshBooks page and Save.

The Freshbooks Migration App transfers your:

  • Bills
  • Chart of accounts (double entry)
  • Credit notes (credit debit notes app)
  • Customers
  • Estimates
  • Invoices (recurring also)
  • Items
  • Transactions (income & expense)
  • Taxes
  • Vendors
